The Bible And Mission Work
I.
INTRODUCTION:
II.
DISCUSSION:
A.
THE SECOND COMMANDMENT OF THE LAW DEMANDS IT.
Matthew
22:39 =
And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt
love thy neighbour as thyself.
Comment:
We should be willing to do all that we can to help
our neighbor when in need and certainly he is in need of help
from the destruction of sin.
B.
THE GOLDEN RULE REQUIRES IT.
Matthew
7:12 =
Therefore all things whatsoever ye would
that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this
is the law and the prophets.
C.
THE GOSPEL IS THE ONLY THING THAT CAN SAVE.
Romans
1:16 =
For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ:
for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that
believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.
2
Thessalonians 1:8-9
= In
flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and
that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:
Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction
from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;
Comment:
If we sit by and wait for something else to save
them, they will perish.
D.
GODS PLAN OF SALVATION DEMANDS IT.
1.
The parable of the sower presents three necessary things
to the production of fruit.
Matthew
13:3-8 =
And he spake many things unto them in parables,
saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side,
and the fowls came and devoured them up:
Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much
earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness
of earth: And
when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they
had no root, they withered away.
And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up,
and choked them: But
other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some
an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold."
Matthew
13:18-23 = "Hear ye therefore the
parable of the sower.
When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth
it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that
which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed
by the way side. But
he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he
that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while:
for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the
word, by and by he is offended.
He also that received seed among the thorns is he that
heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness
of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
But he that received seed into the good ground is he
that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth
fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty,
some thirty.
a.
Seed.
Luke
8:11 =
Now the parable is this: The seed is the
word of God.
James
1:21 =
Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and
superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the
engrafted word, which is able to save your souls.
b.
Soil.
Luke
8:15 =
But that on the good ground are they, which
in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it,
and bring forth fruit with patience.
c.
Sower.
Matthew
13:3 =
And he spake many things unto them in parables,
saying, Behold, a sower went forth to sow;
2.
No one can call on the Lord who has not believed, and
no one can believe who has not heard.
Romans
10:13-14 =
For whosoever shall call upon the name
of the Lord shall be saved.
How then shall they call on him in whom they have not
believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have
not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
3.
This is the Lords arrangement to save man:
Teaching; Understanding;
Conversion; and
Forgiveness.
Matthew
13:15 =
For this people's heart is waxed gross,
and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have
closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes,
and hear with their ears, and should understand with their
heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
E.
IT IS A COMMAND OF GOD TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO ALL
THE WORLD.
Mark
16:15-16 =
And he said unto them, Go ye into all the
world, and preach the gospel to every creature.
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but
he that believeth not shall be damned.
Matthew
28:19-20 =
Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,
baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son,
and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded
you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the
world. Amen
Note:
No one individual can go into all the world, but that
does not excuse each of us from doing what we can to accomplish
this.
F.
PREACHING THE GOSPEL
-- THE GREATEST WORK OF THE CHURCH REQUIRES MISSION
WORK.
1.
The preaching of the gospel is to be made known by
the Church.
Ephesians
3:21 =
Unto him be glory in the church by Christ
Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.
2.
The church is the pillar and g round of the truth.
1
Timothy 3:15
= But
if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how thou oughtest to
behave thyself in the house of God, which is the church of
the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.
G.
THE EXAMPLE OF SPREADING THE GOSPEL TO OTHERS WAS
SET BY THE CHURCH DURING
THE TIME OF THE APOSTLES.
1.
The church at Jerusaslem.
Acts
8:4 =
Therefore they that were scattered abroad
went every where preaching the word.
2.
The church at Philippi.
Philippians
4:15 =
Now ye Philippians know also, that in the
beginning of the gospel, when I departed from Macedonia, no
church communicated with me as concerning giving and receiving,
but ye only.
H.
THE INSTRUCTIONS CONCERNING PRAYER REQUIRES US TO DO
MISSION WORK.
Matthew
9:37-38 =
Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest
truly is plenteous, but the labourers are few;
Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he
will send forth labourers into his harvest.
1.
Praying for missionary efforts and doing nothing, is
liken unto one praying for bread and never working to receive
it.
2.
Faith without works is dead.
James
2:17 =
Even so faith, if it hath not works, is
dead, being alone.
3.
Paul ask the church at Rome to pray for him and his
mission work.
Romans
15:30-33 =
Now
I beseech you, brethren, for the Lord Jesus
Christ's sake, and for the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me;
That I may be delivered from them that do not
believe in Judaea; and that
my service which I have for Jerusalem may be accepted of the
saints; That
I may come unto you with joy by the will of God,
and may with you be refreshed. Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.
