The Cure of Sin
I.
INTRODUCTION:
II.
DISCUSSION:
A.
THE NEED OF A CURE FOR SIN IS EVIDENT AS WE HAVE JUST
NOTICED:
1.
Sin is a violated of Gods law and is evident
that one has deviated from that which is good and healthy
for spiritual man.
1
John 3:4 =
Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth
also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.
1
John 5:17 =
All unrighteousness is sin: and there is
a sin not unto death.
James
4:17 =
Therefore to him that knoweth to do good,
and doeth it not, to him it is sin.
2.
Sin is a crime of breaking Gods law and we all
are guilty of it.
Romans
3:23 =
For all have sinned, and come short of
the glory of God.
Comment: Jesus is the sacrificial atonement for sin and our only
way back to a spiritual condition acceptable to God.
1
John 1:7-10
= But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light,
we have fellowship one with another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar,
and his word is not in us."
1
John 2:1-2 = "My little children,
these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any
man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ
the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only,
but also for the sins of the whole world.
John
14:6 =
Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the
truth, and the life:
no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
3.
Sin is like a master it takes control as
a disease and will take over and we become a slave to it.
Matthew
6:24 =
No
man can serve two masters: for either he will hate
the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one,
and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.
Romans
6:6 =
Knowing this, that our old man is crucified
with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth
we should not serve sin."
Romans
6:12 = "Let
not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should
obey it in the lusts thereof."
Romans
6:16-17 = "Know ye not, that to
whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye
are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience
unto righteousness?
But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin,
but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which
was delivered you."
Romans
6:22-23 = "But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye
have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life.
For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God
is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Comment:
The price of this cure was the precious price paid
by Christ.
1
Corinthians 6:20
= For
ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your
body, and in your spirit, which are God's.
1
Peter 1:18-19
= Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed
with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain
conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb
without blemish and without spot:
B.
SIN IS REFERRED TO IN THE SCRIPTURES AS A DISEASE.
1.
The sick need a physician:
Matthew
9:12 =
But when Jesus heard that, he said unto
them, They that be whole need not a physician, but they that are sick.
Mark
2:16-17 =
And when the scribes and Pharisees saw
him eat with publicans and sinners, they said unto his disciples,
How is it that he eateth and drinketh with publicans and sinners?
When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They
that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that
are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to
repentance.
2.
The disease of sin needs a special physician to cure
its destructive effects:
a.
It destroys the good intellect of man to that of vile
thinking which is contrary to
Philippians
4:8 =
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are
true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are
just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely,
whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue,
and if there be any praise, think on these thing.
b.
It destroys the affections:
(Romans
12:9-21; I
Corinthians 13:1-13)
(1)
Sin drives out love that is pure and holy.
(2)
Sin drives out love for law and order.
(3)
Sin makes the will weak and easier for other submitting
to other sinful practices.
C.
JESUS [THE GREAT PHYSICIAN] AND HIS BLOOD IS THE ONLY
CURE:
1.
The disease of sin is very deceptive.
a.
It like a physical disease often goes untreated thinking
it will just go away.
b.
It is deceptive in that we do not think about the lasting
consequences of it.
Illustration:
(1)
Heart disease often does not cause any pain until it
too late.
(2)
Smoking and drinking do not cause any painful affects
until the damage is done to the lungs and the liver.
(3)
Various forms of dope and drugs, give a sense of euphoria
at first with as being in a state of well-being
-- then comes the shot nerves in conjunction with useless
body and mental functions.
2.
We know that there are physicians that can help the
physical conditions, but we wait too long and then it is too
late.
3.
We know that there is a physician that can help us
and cure us of sin, but many wait too long and then its too
late.
III.
CONCLUSION:
A.
READ WITH ME PAULS WORDS IN
Ephesians
2:1-6 =
And
you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses
and sins; Wherein
in time past ye walked according to the course of this world,
according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit
that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Among whom also we all had our conversation in times
past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of
the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children
of wrath, even as others.
But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith
he loved us, Even when we were
dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by
grace ye are saved;)
And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together
in heavenly places in Christ Jesus:
