Do I really Show I Am A Christian?

  1. INTRODUCTION:

    1. THE LAST FEW WEEKS AND THE LAST FEW DAYS, ESPECIALLY, HAVE BEEN OF GREAT INTEREST TO ME AND PROMPTED THE THOUGHTS OF THIS SERMON.
    2. I WOULD LIKE TO USE THE EVENTS OF THE LAST FEW DAYS TO CAUSE YOU TO GIVE SERIOUS THOUGHT THAT YOUR ACTIONS LET OTHERS KNOW WHAT IS REALLY IMPORTANT TO YOU AND WHAT YOU BELIEVE IN.

  2. DISCUSSION:

    1. SUPPORT GIVEN TO A CANDIDATE:
      1. People will promote a cause or some candidate for some office, because they belief in that which he has said and stands for.
      2. People will dig deep into their finances to support their candidate to get his message out to the masses of people.
      3. People will stand on the street corners, shout, hold banners high, and stop anyone that passes by them to tell them about their candidate and his being the savior of the cause he is running for.
      4. People will say now is the day to let your voice [vote] be heard for the time has come to decide.
      5. People will take time off from:
        1. Their jobs.
        2. Their families.
        3. Even miss church services to attend rallies to voice their support for that which their candidate stands for.
    2. SUPPORT GIVEN TO CHRIST:
      1. Will you promote the cause of Christ, because you believe in what he has said and done?
      2. Will you dig deep into your finances to support the work of Christ, to get His message out to the masses of people?
      3. Will you be willing to stand on the street corners, shout, hold a banner high for Christ, and stop anyone that passes by to tell them of Christ and his being the savior of the world.
      4. Will you tell others that "now is the day of salvation"? [II Corinthians 6:2].
      5. Will you tell others as did Paul in Romans 13:11, "…, Knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed."
      6. Will you take time off from:
        1. Your job to do this?
        2. Your families to do this?
        3. Will you miss other activities to attend the assemblies of the church to voice your support for that which Christ stands?
    3. SOMEWHERE OUR PRIORITIES HAVE BEEN CHANGED. Matthew 6:33 = "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you."
      1. I have seen church members:
        1. Hold up a candidates sign – that you could not get to hold up a sign advertising a Gospel meeting or the location of a church building.
        2. Talk to strangers about their candidate and the need of switching to his "party" - That have said they do not know how to talk to a stranger about being a Christian. [Hebrews 5:12; James 5:20]
        3. I have talked to members of the church that attend rallies for candidates in the last few days and weeks, time and time again, that have said they do not have time to attend church services due to busy schedules. [Hebrews 10:24-27].
        4. I have had church members say that this election is the most important thing in their lives, when we can read in God’s Word about the importance of our soul. Mark 8:34-38 = "And when he had called the people unto him with his disciples also, he said unto them, whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for my sake and the gospel’s, the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Sons of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.?
    4. ASK YOURSELF THESE QUESTIONS:
      1. What benefits will you receive from your candidate?
        1. What has he done for you?
        2. What has he promised you?
        3. Will he keep his promises?
      2. What benefits will you receive from Christ?
        1. He died for you.

          2. John 3:16 = " For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."

          1 Thessalonians 5:10 = "Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him."

        2. He paid the redemptive price for your sins.

          3. I Peter 1:18-19 = " Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"

        3. He has promised you "a crown of life".

          4. Revelation 2:10 = "Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life."

        4. He has promise that all who have faithfully followed His Word will be with him where He is and behold His glory. [John 17:14-24, note verses 20-24]. John 17:20-24 = "Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me. Father, I will that they also, whom thou hast given me, be with me where I am; that they may behold my glory, which thou hast given me: for thou lovedst me before the foundation of the world."
        5. His promises will be kept for He cannot lie. Hebrews 6:18 = "That by two immutable things, in which it was impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold upon the hope set before us:"

  3. CONCLUSION:

    1. WILL YOU MAKE MORE OF A SACRIFICE FOR YOUR CANDIDATE THAN YOU WILL FOR CHRIST?

      2. Romans 12:1-2 = " I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."

    2. WHERE DO YOUR PRIORITIES LIE?

    3. IT IS TIME WE TOOK A SERIOUS LOOK AT OURSELVES FOR THE JUDGMENT IS UPON US.

I Thessalonians 5:2 = "For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as thief in the night."

II Peter 3:12 = "Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat."
