Give Of Your Best To The Master

A.  SCRIPTURE READING: 

Romans 12:1  =  “I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.”

B.   SONG  -- “GIVE OF YOUR BEST TO THE MASTER”    by Howard B. Grose and Charlotte Barnard.

Comment:  For the next few minutes consider with me some comments on this song.

A.  GIVE HIM THE STRENGTH OF YOUR YOUTH –

1.        Before the evil days come.

Ecclesiastes 12:1  =  “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;”

2.        Jesus is our example.

Luke 2:49  =  “And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? wist ye not that I must be about my Father's business?”

I Peter 2:21  =  “For even hereunto were ye called: because Christ also suffered for us, leaving us an example, that ye should follow his steps:”

I Timothy 4:12  =  “Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.”

B.        GIVE HIM FIRST PLACE IN YOUR HEART –

1.        The importance of the heart:

Romans 10:10  =  “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Proverbs 4:23  =  “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”

2.        The first and most important thing in our heart should be to please the Master.

Matthew 6:33  =  “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Colossians 3:23  =  “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Mark 12:30  =  “And thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is the first commandment.”

C.       NAUGHT ELSE IS WORTHY OF THE MASTER’S LOVE  --

1.        We are to take up our cross and follow Christ.

Matthew 16:24  =  “Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.”

2.        Christ wants the church presented to him spotless – He will accept nothing less.

Ephesians 5:27  =  “That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.”

2 Peter 2:13  =  “And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you;”

3.        The Master wants those that follow him to be more than just  vanity

Note:  Vanity is that which is void of use, empty, or useless.

Psalms 39:5  =  “Behold, thou has made my days as an handbreadth;  and mine age is as nothing before thee:  verity every man at his best state is altogether vanity.”

D.       CONSIDER THESE WAYS TO GIVE OF YOUR BEST –

1.        WEBSTER’S COLLEGIATE DICTIONARY, defines “best” as that which is best;  the best part;  Best clothing.  Best state, or best course of action;  One doing the best that is possible for him.

2.        Be always on our best conduct before others.

Note:  This will include work, play, outings, or any activity public or private.

3.        Wear proudly the name “Christian” and love your fellow man, or you will never reach him with the gospel.

4.        Follow that which is best in doctrine – the truth of God. 

Romans 1:16  = “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.”

5.        Render the best service possible as an elder, deacon, preacher, teacher, or just a member of the Lord’s body.

Colossians 3:17  =  “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.”

6.        Set  the best example before others that they may glorify the Father

Matthew 5:13-16  =  “Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.  Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid.  Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.  Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.”

a.         The best speech.

b.         The best actions.

c.         The best conduct.

d.         The best dress.

7.        Fight the best battle for truth.

Colossians 3:23  =  “And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;”

Ephesians 6:11  =  “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.”

8.        Worship God in the best way possible – pleasing to Him. 

John 4:24  =  “God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

III.    CONCLUSION:

A.  THE WAY TO GIVE YOUR BEST IS TO BE CLAD IN SALVATION'S FULL ARMOR –

Ephesians 6:13-17  =  “Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.  Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;  And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;  Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”

1.        One that is not a follower of the Master must put on these garments.

2.        One that is a follower of the Master must keep the garments on.

B.        WILL YOU GIVE OF YOU BEST TO THE MASTER?
