The New Creature
- INTRODUCTION:
- SCRIPTURE READING:
Col. 3:5-15 = "Mortify therefore your members which are upon
the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things'
sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In
the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now
ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy
communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing
that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on
the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him
that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision
nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ
is all, and in all. [12-15] Put on therefore, as the elect of God,
holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind,
meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving one
another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave
you, so also do ye. And above all these things put on charity, which
is the bond of perfectness. And let the peace of God rule in your
hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful."
- THE BIBLE SPEAKS OF TWO CREATIONS:
- Material -- This creation was in the beginning when God spoke
into existence the heavens and the earth and since then no material
substance has been created.
- Spiritual -- This is the creation that takes place in the
spiritual realm every time a sinner is converted to Christ.
II Cor . 5:17 = "Therefore if any man be in Christ, he
is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things
are become new."
Comment: The Apostle Paul gives in this verse a description
of this new creature which can be summed up in two points:
- DISCUSSION:
- "OLD THINGS ARE PASSED AWAY":
Comment: In Col. 3:5-11, we find a list enumerating the things which
are to be put away -- Let's read these again and take a closer look
at them.

the earth; fornication, uncleanness, inordinate affection, evil
concupiscence, and covetousness, which is idolatry: For which things'
sake the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience: In
the which ye also walked some time, when ye lived in them. But now
ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy
communication out of your mouth. Lie not one to another, seeing
that ye have put off the old man with his deeds; And have put on
the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him
that created him: Where there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcision
nor uncircumcision, Barbarian, Scythian, bond nor free: but Christ
is all, and in all."

the wrath of God cometh on the children of disobedience:"

things that are take the place of what has been put away. We
must remember that it is not enough to just put off the sinful
garments, but we must put on new garments as well.
Col. 3:12-15 = "Put on therefore, as the elect of God,
holy and beloved, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of
mind, meekness, longsuffering; Forbearing one another, and forgiving
one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as
Christ forgave you, so also do ye. And above all these things
put on charity, which is the bond of perfectness. And let the
peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called
in one body; and be ye thankful."
