1. Christ was to be of David’s family:

2 Samuel 7:12-16 = "And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. [13] He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever. [14] I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men: [15] But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee. [16] And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever."

Psalms 89:3-4 = "I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant, [4] Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah."

Isaiah 9:6-7 = "For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. [7] Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this."

Matthew 22:44 = "The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?"

Mark 12:36 = "For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool."

Luke 1:69-70 = "And hath raised up an horn of salvation for us in the house of his servant David; [70] As he spake by the mouth of his holy prophets, which have been since the world began:"

John 7:42 = "Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"

2. Christ was to be born of a virgin:

Isaiah 7:14 = "Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel."

Matthew 1:23 = "Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us."

3. Christ was to be of the Tribe of Judah:

Genesis 49:10 = "The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering of the people be."

Hebrews 7:14 = "For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood."

4. Christ was to be born in Bethlehem:

Micah 5:2 = "But thou, Bethlehem Ephratah, though thou be little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of thee shall he come forth unto me that is to be ruler in Israel; whose goings forth have been from of old, from everlasting."

Matthew 2:6 = "And thou Bethlehem, in the land of Juda, art not the least among the princes of Juda: for out of thee shall come a Governor, that shall rule my people Israel."

John 7:42 = "Hath not the scripture said, That Christ cometh of the seed of David, and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?"

5. Christ was to sojourn in Egypt:

Hosea 11:1 = "When Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt."

Matthew 2:15 = "And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son."

6. Christ would make his home in Galilee:

Isaiah 9:1-2 = "Nevertheless the dimness shall not be such as was in her vexation, when at the first he lightly afflicted the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, and afterward did more grievously afflict her by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, in Galilee of the nations. [2] The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light: they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined."

Matthew 4:15 = "The land of Zabulon, and the land of Nephthalim, by the way of the sea, beyond Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles;"

7. Christ would make his home in Nazareth:

Isaiah. 11:1 = "And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a branch shall grow out of his roots;"

Matthew 2:23 = "And he came and dwelt in a city called Nazareth: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophets, He shall be called a Nazarene."

8. Children would be killed at the birth of Christ:

Genesis 35:19-20 = "And Rachel died, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem. [20] And Jacob set a pillar upon her grave: that is the pillar of Rachel's grave unto this day."

Genesis 48:7 = "And as for me, when I came from Padan, Rachel died by me in the land of Canaan in the way, when yet there was but a little way to come unto Ephrath: and I buried her there in the way of Ephrath; the same is Bethlehem."

Jeremiah 31:15 = "Thus saith the LORD; A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping; Rahel weeping for her children refused to be comforted for her."

Matthew 2:18 = "In Rama was there a voice heard, lamentation, and weeping, and great mourning, Rachel weeping for her children, and would not be comforted, because they are not."

9. The coming of Christ would be announced by one like Elijah:

Isaiah 40:3-5 = "The voice of him that crieth in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the LORD, make straight in the desert a highway for our God. [4] Every valley shall be exalted, and every mountain and hill shall be made low: and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain: [5] And the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken it."

Malachi 3:1 = "Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts."

Matthew 3:3 = "For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."

Matthew 11:10-14 = "For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. [11] Verily I say unto you, Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist: notwithstanding he that is least in the kingdom of heaven is greater than he. [12] And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence, and the violent take it by force. [13] For all the prophets and the law prophesied until John. [14] And if ye will receive it, this is Elias, which was for to come."

Mark 1:2-3 = "As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. [3] The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight."

Luke 3:4-6 = "As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 10. Christ would proclaim a Julilee to the world:

Isaiah 58:6 = "Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?"

Isaiah 61:1 = "The Spirit of the Lord GOD is upon me; because the LORD hath anointed me to preach good tidings unto the meek; he hath sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim liberty to the captives, and the opening of the prison to them that are bound;"

Luke 4:18-19 = "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, [19] To preach the acceptable year of the Lord."

11. Christ would be rejected by his brethren and hated by the Jews:

Psalms 69:8 = "I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children."

John 1:11 = "He came unto his own, and his own received him not."

John 15:24 = "If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father."

12. The mission of Christ would include Gentiles:

Isaiah 42:1-4 = "Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. [2] He shall not cry, nor lift up, nor cause his voice to be heard in the street. [3] A bruised reed shall he not break, and the smoking flax shall he not quench: he shall bring forth judgment unto truth. [4] He shall not fail nor be discouraged, till he have set judgment in the earth: and the isles shall wait for his law."

Matthew 12:18-21 = "Behold my servant, whom I have chosen; my beloved, in whom my soul is well pleased: I will put my spirit upon him, and he shall shew judgment to the Gentiles. [19] He shall not strive, nor cry; neither shall any man hear his voice in the streets. [20] A bruised reed shall he not break, and smoking flax shall he not quench, till he send forth judgment unto victory. [21] And in his name shall the Gentiles trust."

13. Christ would confirm His message by miracles of healing:

Isaiah 53:4 = "Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted."

Matthew 8:17 = "That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses."

14. Christ would teach by parables:

Isaiah 6:9-10 = "And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. [10] Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed."

Psalms 78:2 = "I will open my mouth in a parable: I will utter dark sayings of old:"

Matthew 13:14-15 = "And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive: [15] For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them."

15. Christ would be rejected by the rulers:

Psalms 69:4 = "They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away."

Psalms 118:22 = "The stone which the builders refused is become the head stone of the corner."

Isaiah 6:10 = "Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed."

Isaiah 29:13 = "Wherefore the Lord said, Forasmuch as this people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me, and their fear toward me is taught by the precept of men:"

Isaiah 53:1 = "Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?"

Matthew 15:8-9 = "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. [9] But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."

Matthew 21:42 = "Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?"

Mark 7:6-7 = " He answered and said unto them, Well hath Esaias prophesied of you hypocrites, as it is written, This people honoureth me with their lips, but their heart is far from me. [7] Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men."

Mark 12:10-11 = And have ye not read this scripture; The stone which the builders rejected is become the head of the corner: [11] This was the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?"

Luke 20:17 = "And he beheld them, and said, What is this then that is written, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner?"

John 12:38-40 = "That the saying of Esaias the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spake, Lord, who hath believed our report? and to whom hath the arm of the Lord been revealed? [39] Therefore they could not believe, because that Esaias said again, [40] He hath blinded their eyes, and hardened their heart; that they should not see with their eyes, nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them."

John 15:25 = "But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause."

16. Christ would make a triumphal entry into Jerusalem:

Isaiah 62:11 = "Behold, the LORD hath proclaimed unto the end of the world, Say ye to the daughter of Zion, Behold, thy salvation cometh; behold, his reward is with him, and his work before him."

Zechariah 9:9 = "Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold, thy King cometh unto thee: he is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass."

Psalms 118:26 = "Blessed be he that cometh in the name of the LORD: we have blessed you out of the house of the LORD."

Matthew 21:5 = "Tell ye the daughter of Sion, Behold, thy King cometh unto thee, meek, and sitting upon an ass, and a colt the foal of an ass."

John 12:13-15 = "Took branches of palm trees, and went forth to meet him, and cried, Hosanna: Blessed is the King of Israel that cometh in the name of the Lord. [14] And Jesus, when he had found a young ass, sat thereon; as it is written, [15] Fear not, daughter of Sion: behold, thy King cometh, sitting on an ass's colt."

17. Christ would be betrayed for 30 pieces of silver:

Zechariah 11:12-13 = "And I said unto them, If ye think good, give me my price; and if not, forbear. So they weighed for my price thirty pieces of silver. [13] And the LORD said unto me, Cast it unto the potter: a goodly price that I was prised at of them. And I took the thirty pieces of silver, and cast them to the potter in the house of the LORD."

Psalms 41:9 = "Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me."

Matthew 27:9-10 = "Then was fulfilled that which was spoken by Jeremy the prophet, saying, And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of him that was valued, whom they of the children of Israel did value; [10] And gave them for the potter's field, as the Lord appointed me."

John 13:18 = "I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me."

18. Christ would be a smitten Shepherd:

Zechariah 13:7 = "Awake, O sword, against my shepherd, and against the man that is my fellow, saith the LORD of hosts: smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered: and I will turn mine hand upon the little ones."

Matthew 26:31 = "Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad."

Mark 14:27 = "And Jesus saith unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep shall be scattered."

19. Christ would die with thieves:

Isaiah 53:9 = "And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth. …

Isaiah 53:12 = "Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bare the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors."

Luke 22:37 = "For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end."

20. Christ would be buried by a rich man:

Isaiah 53:9 = "And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was any deceit in his mouth."

Matthew 27:57-60 = "When the even was come, there came a rich man of Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple: [58] He went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus. Then Pilate commanded the body to be delivered. [59] And when Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, [60] And laid it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out in the rock: and he rolled a great stone to the door of the sepulchre, and departed."

21. Christ would be given vinegar and gall to drink:

Psalms 69:21 = "They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink."

Matthew 27:34 = "They gave him vinegar to drink mingled with gall: and when he had tasted thereof, he would not drink."

John 19:29 = "Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth."

22. Soldiers would cast lots for the garments of Christ:

Psalms 22:18 = "They part my garments among them, and cast lots upon my vesture."

John 19:24 = "They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did."

23. The sayings from the cross were foretold:

Psalms 22:1 = "My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?"

Psalms 31:5 = "Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth."

Matthew 27:46 = "And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

Mark 15:34 = "And at the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eloi, Eloi, lama sabachthani? which is, being interpreted, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me?"

Luke 23:46 = "And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost."

24. The side of Christ would be pierced:

Zechariah 12:10 = "And I will pour upon the house of David, and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem, the spirit of grace and of supplications: and they shall look upon me whom they have pierced, and they shall mourn for him, as one mourneth for his only son, and shall be in bitterness for him, as one that is in bitterness for his firstborn."

Psalms 22:16 = "For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet."

John 19:37 = "And again another scripture saith, They shall look on him whom they pierced."

25. Not a bone of Christ’s would be broken:

Psalms 34:20 = "He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken."

Numbers 9:12 = "They shall leave none of it unto the morning, nor break any bone of it: according to all the ordinances of the passover they shall keep it."

Exodus 12:46 = "In one house shall it be eaten; thou shalt not carry forth ought of the flesh abroad out of the house; neither shall ye break a bone thereof."

John 19:36 = "For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken."

26. Christ was to die by crucifixion:

Psalms 22:16 = "For dogs have compassed me: the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me: they pierced my hands and my feet."

27. He was to be scourged before his crucifixion:

Isaiah 50:6 = "I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting."

28. Christ would rise from the dead the third day:

Matthew 12:40 = "For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale's belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth."

Luke 24:46 = "And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day:"

Acts 2:25-32 = "For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: [26] Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope: [27] Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. [28] Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance. [29] Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day. [30] Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne; [31] He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption. [32] This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses."

Acts 13:33-35 = ""God hath fulfilled the same unto us their children, in that he hath raised up Jesus again; as it is also written in the second psalm, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee. [34] And as concerning that he raised him up from the dead, now no more to return to corruption, he said on this wise, I will give you the sure mercies of David. [35] Wherefore he saith also in another psalm, Thou shalt not suffer thine Holy One to see corruption."

Psalms 16:10-11 = "For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption. [11] Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore."

Hosea 6:2 = "After two days will he revive us: in the third day he will raise us up, and we shall live in his sight."

Jonah 1:17 = "Now the LORD had prepared a great fish to swallow up Jonah. And Jonah was in the belly of the fish three days and three nights."

NOTE:

1. Jesus himself realized that in his death he was fulfilling the Scripture

Matthew 26:54-56 = "But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? [55] In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. [56] But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled."

2. The complete story of the life of Christ was told hundreds of years before he was born. This leads us to believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God and that the Testaments, Old and New, are God’s verbally inspired immovable, perfect word, a lamp to our feet, and a light to our

Pathway (Psalms 119:105).

3. Christ is now crowned Lord of Lords and King of Kings (Revelation 17:14; Revelation19:16). He is seated on David’s throne "and there was given him dominion, and glory, and a kingdom, that all people, nations, and languages, should serve him: his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed" (Daniel 7:14).
